make money online
Anna Williams asked:

art earning money online and how to avoid the pitfalls that cause others to fail.

It’s actually far easier than you might think. I don’t want to give you the impression that there is a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of it. But, at the same time, there are plenty of ways to make money online, should you wish to do so.

If you are interested in learning how to make money online, you should, however, be prepared and willing to put some time and effort into it. The old saying that “nothing comes for free,” tends to hold true. This is also the case where money is concerned.

After all, lets face the facts, I don’t think that any one of us has run into an employer lately who said, “Hey, come work for me, I will pay you millions and all I want you to do is sit around and loaf all day”. (In the case I am wrong and in case you have encountered such a person, please forward the name and address of that would-be employer, as that might be just the job I’m looking for.)

Alright, enough of that, back to the harsh realities of life. How to earn money online? Well there are a variety of ways of doing just that. To name a just a few of the methods in use:

- Affiliate Marketing

- Pay Per Click Advertising (such as Google Adsense)

- Email Marketing

- Online Videos

- Master Resale Rights Products

There are even ways to make money online without a website.

But in order to actually make money online, you need to know the correct way of going about these above strategies.

There are several ways of learning how to make money on the Internet. One can try to learn by oneself (through trial and error) or one can study up on the subject.

There are several things you will need to understand and be aware of,. Such as:

- Research and Preparation

- Social Networks Web 2.0

- Website Building

- Understanding RSS

- Search Engine Optimization (or “SEO”)

- Establishing Your Online Presence

- Product Creation

- The Different Money Making Ideas and Opportunities Online

So where do you find the knowledge you need, to make money online?

There are many publications and people which claim to teach you how to make heaps of money, fast. But there are only a few that actually take you through the needed steps to do so. (The best I know of is an E-book by Holly Mann, “Honest Riches.”)

The prime reasons that most people fail in their first endeavors to create a long-term residual income online are:

They get confused They get dispersed They invest too much money on the wrong things They follow random advice of random advertisers who promise to make them rich but just want to sell them something They let their email inbox accumulate dozens of email newsletters on how to make money online, which they never read. They look for ways to get rich fast without working.

It is not true that anyone can simply go online, sign up for something, and earn millions of dollars without working.

It is true, however, that one can invest some time and intelligence into creating an army of websites which will eventually produce large quantities of money on a regular basis, with little work involved.

But to build this up, you have to be willing to research, learn, practice, and invest time and energy, and please … have fun while you’re doing it.

make money online
Carol King asked:

According to many websites and advertisements making money online is very easy to do. It seems that wherever one turns these days someone is trying to convince the masses how easy it is to earn an extra income. If you are a subscriber to a newsletter you will no doubt have received many emails from the gurus telling you that this product or that software is the next best thing to owning your own atm.

Terms like ‘avalanche of cash,’ ‘floods of traffic’ and ‘mountains of moolar’ are thrown around like Frisbees. Unfortunately there are hundreds of people out there who see these ads and fall for the million dollar sales copy. The so-called gurus make it sound so easy it seems so simple. Spend a few minutes in any marketing forum and you will see dozens of people complaining about how they signed up for this or that program a week ago and want to know why they have not made enough money to retire yet.

So who’s to blame for the 95% failure rate of online businesses? The old saying (There are two sides to every story) definitely applies here. Lets break it down into to categories.

The Consumers

These are the regular Joes looking for ways to make extra money. One of the reasons for the high failure rate is attitude. It may sound like an over simplification of a large problem but the evidence is clear. The average person surfing online wants to make money. In these times the modern culture is one of impatience. We know what we want and we want it now! Consequently if someone is ordering a burger they want it to their required standard as quickly as possible and unfortunately many people feel the same about starting an online business.

More often than not the attitude adopted is all-wrong from the start. Therefore the reason for failure is not that the business does not work, it’s the owner that does not work. The business owner went into the program with the wrong attitude i.e. expecting to be turning a profit within a couple of weeks so the work needed to grow the business was not put in. Almost everything else in life comes so quickly it is expected that profiting from a business will happen quickly as well.

The Marketers

There are far too many unscrupulous so-called marketers online literally lying through there teeth to make money. These are the guys that exaggerate beyond all comprehension. All over the Internet ads that claim you can make ($1000 in the next fifteen minutes) can be seen. These are the few that make it difficult for the majority by making promises that they cannot possibly keep.

Thankfully not all marketers are the same and the good do outweigh the bad. There are those who try to educate people as well as market to them. Educating consumers is vital. Any good marketers understands that it is imperative to get their visitors to fully understand what they will be getting into when they begin their businesses.

So. Who really is to blame for the high failure rate of Internet marketers? Honestly the fault lies with both consumers and markers. Building a strong profitable online home business takes time and a great deal of work. Do not fall for the hype. If it were that easy everyone would be rich and getting sun tanned on private secluded beaches.

If you are looking for ways to earn money fast, do not look online. Internet marketing is an industry just like any other, it must be learnt before it can be applied. If you are not willing to take the time and money needed to learn then it is not for you. Oh yes, money, do not think because a business is online it will be free to start-up and maintain. No business online will last without advertising. There are some great free ways to get exposure but at the same time there are some advertising techniques that are extremely powerful but costly.

The key to starting a business is to do some research, get as much information as possible before joining or parting with your money. Most importantly understand that becoming successful takes time, perseverance, determination and just a little luck.

make money online
Robert Podolsky asked:

ion:

There are basically three ways to make money online. Each is distinguished by the method you use to bring visitors to your website. The choices are:

1. Offer your readers a chance to make lots of money with little or no effort,

2. Set up a niche marketing site and fool the search engines into ranking your web page highly, by means of “Search Engine Optimization” (SEO), or

3. Create a “content rich” website that over-delivers precisely the kind of information for which your readers are searching.

Consider the first option:

In this instance you are suggesting that your reader should be well rewarded for giving her customers something that costs her no effort. How much real value can such a product have? At best, you are inviting her to scam her readers, just as you are scamming her.

It is true that there are a lot of very desperate folks out there who will buy a “pig in a poke” business deal in hopes of solving their financial problems overnight. Do you want to make money by contributing to their woes? If so, you will have to go elsewhere to learn how to do it. I won’t be a party to such dealings. I urge you to reconsider.

The second option, niche marketing with SEO is viable, but it has a downside - some distinct disadvantages.

The Downside of SEO:

Let us take a look at those disadvantages. For starters, the search engines keep changing how they rank websites - they become ever more sophisticated in how they judge the quality of any particular website. Their objective is always to present the user with the best information possible about whatever topic is entered as the user’s keywords.

When you focus on search engine optimization you get ever further from the core purpose - providing quality information. The result, too often, is that you are not using your time and efforts well - and too often also, as the search engines get better your ranking suffers. Not the best plan.

Remember, the big three search engines, (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) have enormous resources at their disposal, and hire large numbers of experts to keep improving their algorithms - the mathematical formulas that compute the ranking scores.

The long and the short of it is that you can never keep up with them. I don’t recommend this.

A Better Way to Make Money Online:

Instead, stay focused on the quality and quantity of the information that you provide your website visitors. If this is truly your focus, your ranking will get better and better as the search engines evolve.

Maintaining this focus is the best of all ways to make money online. When you afford your readers lots of great information on the subject of their interest, they will come to trust what you have to say, and ultimately they will buy what you have to offer. It’s that simple - not always easy - but simple.

Needed Resources:

So what resources do you need to pursue this simple way to make money online? Ideally you will have at your disposal:

* Reliable web hosting,

* Capable online tools to do your market research - to determine which markets constitute potentially profitable niches,

* Detailed step-by-step instructions to design websites that please both the search engines and your website’s visitors,

* Website construction tools that enable someone with your level of skills to build a well-designed professional-quality website,

* Immediate feedback on the quality of each web page that you create, and guidance in editing the work that you have done to maximize its effectiveness,

* Traffic generation tools that successfully get your website noticed by searchers and search engines alike - thereby continuously improving your ranking and your visibility to potential customers,

* Detailed guidance that enables you to “pre-sell” your visitors effectively, by demonstrating your ability and willingness to provide them with top-notch information of the kind they are seeking,

* Excellent sales and presentation models to guide you through all aspects of monetizing your website profitably,

* In depth information on every phase of developing your online business - not just your website, and…

* Online forums in which you can ask questions concerning every step of the online business-building process - and get meaningful answers from a cadre of successful online entrepreneurs - whom you can actually contact and talk with.

Finding These Resources:

Whether you are a beginner, a novice, an experienced online marketer, or a professional webmaster, you owe it to yourself to have all of these resources at hand.

That may seem like a tall order, but the resources exist and cost far less than you probably expect. In fact, many are available for free.

John Rattigan asked:

For anyone wanting to discover ways to make money online, the Internet is a vast place full of opportunities (and scams), and it can be overwhelming trying to find out the best way.

There are literally hundreds of ways to make money working online from home, from completing online surveys, selling goods on e-bay or even playing online bingo or poker! So how do you know which method is the real deal and which is just a lottery, or worse, a waste of your time?

There are 5 tried and tested strategies that work time after time and underpin nearly every internet success story out there. Here I shall share an outline of each one.

The Five Internet Income Streams

There are essentially five ways that you can make an income on the internet:

1. Advertising - This refers to one of two main methods; either the practice of selling space on your high traffic blog or website to paying advertisers, or of signing up to a service like Google Adsense that automatically places adverts on your site that relate to the content. Depending on the scheme, you either get paid when a visitor clicks through to the advertised site via your advert, or when they click through AND make a purchase.

2. Affiliate Marketing - This is where you basically get paid for promoting somebody else’s product. There are many ways of doing this but two popular methods are to go to a site like clickbank.com and typically select an e-book to sell. You then sell it by using Google adwords to advertise it. A second method is to recommend products sold on sites like amazon.com. For each sale you get a predetermined share of the sum the book or product sold for and the original author/product creator gets a pre-determined share too.

3. Ecommerce - This is where you trade via an online store. You can either use your own website or blog, or that of providers like ebay. You can sell anything, from products you have created to your old, unwanted belongings. Information products are a very successful way to generate regular online income. Typically you write an ebook or create a podcast or videos providing valuable content on a subject you know well, and sell it online. The secret is to test and make sure there is a market before investing time and effort in producing any of your own products.

4. Subscription - These days you can set up an online membership site; it’s like paying for a good old-fashioned magazine on your favourite topic. In order to succeed it must meet a niche market and provide valuable content and/or a link to a like-minded community. It should also offer products and services that would interest that community and can generate an additional commission via affiliate sales. Once set up and a vibrant community has evolved, it can be a great way to make money online with minimal effort.

5. Participation - This is the hardest market to ***** as it requires a high level of trust and commitment from your purchaser. Typically a relationship will have been built on and/or offline prior to any online participation sales. However once this relationship is built this is considered by many to be the best way to make money online due to the high transaction fees and loyal following that commands repeat sales through up-selling and cross-selling. You will typically be talking about services like mentoring, coaching, conferences, online training webinars etc which can command substantial fees. At the outset, when you are setting up your online business you should explore all the possible money making opportunities and ensure that the website you build at the outset has the capability to meet your needs as you add new ways of making money.

Don Downes asked:

When you start to think about making money online, do you ever picture yourself sitting on the beach with a laptop, sipping a little umbrella drink? Is it just me?

Or how about getting comfortable in your newly converted home office while you think about who your ex-boss is micro-managing at this very moment?

Not so fast.

With all of the make money online opportunities there are, how do you decide which work from home and make money online opportunities on the internet are not only right for you, but the real deal as well?

If you’ve taken a look at the make money online opportunities, it’s easy to get overloaded. Once you realize that a company would not sell a get rich quick formula that actually worked, it puts things into a clear perspective.

Would you sell a money making cash machine? I didn’t think so, me neither.

So now that we can ignore the fluff, we can avoid being overloaded and focus on what would be the right opportunity for you.

A no-brainer great way to make money online is to model someone who has already done it, and is bringing home the big bucks.

There are many average folks who are now making above average incomes because they didn’t try to re-invent the wheel. They copied somebody who was already making money online.

A successful online mentor has the “been there and done that” experience which we can learn from.

You don’t need to overload your brain trying to come up with that one bright idea that is going to make you rich.

Although, if you do come up with the next Myspace, please give me a call.

We’ve narrowed down the real opportunities from the get rich quick; we now know that we can model a successful person to duplicate internet success, what’s next?

How about making money online and enjoying what you do? Feeling good about your products or services that you are going to be promoting?

If you’re still mind-debating about which opportunity is right for you, check with your intuition.

If your gut feeling is telling you that this opportunity just doesn’t feel right, move on. The ladies have us beat on this one fellas. They’re just naturals on intuition.

When you’re reading over some slick sales copy and you get that strange feeling like this may be too good to be true, trust it.

So with these few small and easy tips to keep in mind when you’re looking for an online money making opportunity, you can save your brain from being overloaded and focused on what’s important.

Matt Helphrey asked:

As the Internet continues to mature sometimes we make things more difficult than we should. When it comes to making money on the internet you really only need four things. In this article let’s talk about the four things you need to make money online.

1. First of all you need a product that people have a need for, an interest in, and the ability to pay for. The Internet has made it possible for all of us to be involved in the worldwide economy.

However there are certain products that lend themselves better for Internet sales than others. Selling information products is a great way for the average person to make money online.

2. Next, we need to find some customers to buy our products. Today people go online looking for answers to questions, or attempting to solve a problem that they have.

This presents a tremendous opportunity for all of us to make money online selling information that solves these problems. There is a skill to this, but it also makes it easy when we begin to understand what problems people are facing

Then it just becomes a matter of finding products that address these problems, or creating products and selling them ourselves.

3. We need a way to be able to deliver the products to our customers. Affiliate marketing handles many of these day-to-day aspects such as collecting the money and shipping the product. However if you are creating your own products this is another reason why information products work so well for the average person.

Instant access and deliver ability are a few of the many benefits the Internet brings. Once a person has paid you they can be directed to a download page where they have instant access to the product they have just purchased.

4. The final point to we want to address is creating a system for your success. Basic components of this include having a website, a blog, an autoresponder, and a funnel system including backend products to sell.

Until you are promoting your system on a consistent basis, you will not make a penny online. This means learning Internet marketing skills and traffic generation methods that you become comfortable with.

In summary you can see that to make money online you need a product there is a need for, customers who can purchase your product from you, a way to collect the money and deliver the product to your customer, and a system to generate traffic and sell products on the back end.

Scott Allen McKay asked:

In this day and age anyone with a computer can find a way to make money online. It wasn’t all that long ago that people were looking for ways to earn additional income doing more of what they have been doing conventionally for the last 30 years. The Internet and e-commerce has changed all of that and the new online business revolution has begun.

There are a number of home based business companies that have made a transition into the Information Age with an online business model. The question you have to answer is this; Do I want to take a cookie cutter template that has a proven track record or create a business model all of my own?

The answers to this question will be very diverse. Some big thinking entrepreneurs will look at the Internet as a way to make money online by exploiting the necessary services of creating an application that will run or promote various home based business models or even create online accountability and training systems for those models. The rest of us look at this medium as a way to possibly sell our wares or to advertise our services.

The cookie cutter template to make money online, such as becoming an affiliate marketer for an online merchant, offers the luxury of having a replicated website of your own and a variety of brand name products that you can sell and make a commission. Another such opportunity is an online business for an MLM company where you can accomplish sales by driving traffic to your site, organically or inorganically, or to recruit new affiliates to your team where you can also make commissions. Either way the opportunities are endless.

The larger thinking entrepreneur has to think in terms of hiring programmers, coders, graphic artists, consultants of various types, and many others that are involved in developing a business that will make money online. These types of operations are obviously extensive and require a large amount of capital and man power. Those business are the eBay’s, Amazon’s, and Google’s on the largest scale and Free Credit Report and Credit Monitoring on a smaller scale.

The upside to some of the larger models to make money online are that they afford others a template to make money online for themselves. i.e. eBay. This model has enabled hundreds of thousands of people to make money online simply by selling items they’d throw away or collect items from others to sell around the world.

There are exciting opportunities on the horizon for making money online so be sure to watch for a new revolution in the hybrid model of eBay, Amazon, Google, and My Space. Good luck!

John Rattigan asked:

In my last article I talked about the 5 proven strategies for making money working online and how to work out which one you should chose to pursue, taking into account your resources and personal strengths.

I promised I would share with you my own successes and failures in pursuing each of the 5 strategies. Of course it’s important to understand how success is achieved, but most of the gurus in time have confirmed that they learnt more from making mistakes. It was in correcting the mistakes that they found success, so it follows that getting out there and taking action, any action, may not lead to immediate success but will almost certainly lead to a mistake or learning experience that will propel you forward to success if you persevere.

It is also worth pointing out that these are just my personal experiences based on what has worked for me.

Before we dive in, it’s worth considering that the five methods we have been talking about in this article series can either be applied individually, or maybe a couple adhoc or even all of them collectively as part of a higher level meta strategy. In other words your approach will depend on the time, money and resources available to you, and your grand vision in your quest to make money working online. You can either find one that works for you and just stick at that. Or you can work on several together or pick the strategies off one by one.

In fact if you stop to analyse the methods you will perhaps notice that the order we have covered them is almost a stairway or building block that will allow you to make real money online. Advertising is easy, low cost and quick to get you off the mark. Yet to make money through Participation methods at the top end you generally need to invest a lot more time, effort and resources and really need to have built up a following or customer base, some of whom will be prepared to pay for your high end participation products. This system is what you may generally have heard called the sales or marketing funnel where you start with free or low cost items through blogging or affiliate marketing, and then build up to ecommerce and participation products and services that tend to be higher ticket items. Strategy 1 - Advertising

As we have previously established, this generally refers to making money online by selling your advertising space on your site(s) or blogs. Personally I had 2 issues with this strategy. Firstly I felt that the time and effort in setting up and configuring services like adsense that places content relevant adverts and links on your site did not match the small rewards.

The other issue for me was that my overall goal was to sell my own products and services and so I did not agree with the principle of sending traffic that had landed on my site to another site via the advertising. This is why many internet marketers set up dedicated blogs or traffic sites which are purely there for the purpose of driving traffic to their links. So if you are going to pursue this strategy as your best way make money online, that would be my advice - set up specific traffic sites or blogs. Blogs are free so are a great cost effective way of doing it.

For me, having quit my job and with 2 young children, I needed to make money online fast so I had a couple of websites that were there to promote my own products and services as part of my overall strategy. So it did not make sense to divert potential customers away from my sites by using them to advertise just anything.

My approach to advertising therefore was not so much to make quick money online from it, but to trade advertising space with reciprocal links to other established service providers to my target market who also had existing traffic. This worked tremendously well as it meant I kept my costs low, got very targeted traffic for free, and built my brand and reputation quickly by association.

This reciprocal approach has served me very well. Although I did not understand it in the early days, it has also helped with search engine optimisation and placed my sites higher in the search rankings - generating extra traffic for free.

In future articles I will share my experiences of affiliate marketing, ecommerce, participation, and subscription.

Mark Salter asked:

ll the bad things leveled against it, believe it or not, the World Wide Web is not an entirely dangerous place. True, there may be scammers and thieves hiding in the corners of the Internet, but thanks to the web savvy of computer technicians, the Internet can actually be a good place to be if you want to meet people, learn new things, and even make money. Yes, the Internet can be your cash cow if you know how to manage it. But the question is why? Why should you even try to earn cash and make money online?

There are many different reasons why you should try to earn cash but one thing that you should not do (at least not yet) is to leave your day job. Internet-based businesses may earn a lot in the long run, but now that a lot of people are making money online, it might be difficult for you to break into the market and earn your gazillions immediately. In any case, here are a few reasons why you should start thinking about making that mouse work and getting yourself some bucks online.

It can be easy, and it oftentimes requires no big effort from you. There are many ways that you can make money online, and not all of them require you to be chained to a desk, writing down everything on a sheet of paper, or marking out graphs and curves with a highlighter. Take, for instance, affiliate marketing. In affiliate marketing, people online who have blogs or websites ally themselves with marketers. These blogs and websites need money to survive and these blogs and websites have an audience that can buy things online. So what do affiliate marketers do? They post advertisements on their clients blogs and websites. Every time a visitor clicks on an advertisement, money goes to the blog or website owner. In fact, if this same visitor buys something on the new website, the blog or website owner gets commissions.

As you can see, the effort will be on the part of the website visitor to click; and once the click is made, a few cents go into the blog or website owners account. Of course, the payment is only a few cents, but those cents pile up eventually into dollars; and those dollars become hundreds; and those hundreds can be thousands. So what does a website or blog owner have to do to earn more? Make the website better and better every time, of course! All that the website or blog owner needs to do is to constantly provide content, and to update content and make it fresh for new visitors. This brings us to the next point.

Earning money online can allow you to help people get jobs. But wait, how do you earn money by giving it away? Simple: you don’t write your website content yourself. You hire people to do it for you. If you balance your payments for your writers with your own profits from the advertisement clickings of your frequent visitors and if you constantly advertise your site on popular sites, mailing lists, or forums, then you will have visitors flocking to your site constantly. And if you have a great site, your own customers and visitors will do your advertising for you!

Earning money online can be easy! There are many programs out there that allow you to create a dummy site so that you can get started on your earnings journey. If you want to put up a blog, then there are many websites out there that have ready-made blog software for you to use, and all you need is a bit of practice. Of course, the bit of practice might take longer if you aren’t comfortable with computers, but at least you have full control of your would-be business at the onset.

There are many options for you to earn money online. There are actually money-earning programs available where you can consult with experts on how to set up your business. There are even profit sharing schemes where you can advertise popular blogs or websites on your site in return for commissions. There are even residual income sources that you can use for more income, such as answering surveys online, participating in forum discussions for a fee, and even writing reviews!

These are only a few reasons why you should earn money online. But the main reason might simply be this: you need money for a better tomorrow, a good education for your children, a good retirement fund, a source of investment, and a way to enjoy your weekends. Your reasons will be different, but we all need money, and if the World Wide Web can give you a chance to earn money honestly, then why not take the chance?
